Downtown district map

Abingdon, VA is proud to be an official Main Street community, affiliated with Virginia Main Street and the national Main Street Center.

In order to be a Main Street Community, a town must have a “traditional downtown district.” This means it must have a physical setting conducive to applying the Main Street Approach, including a pedestrian scale and orientation; critical mass of buildings and businesses; and critical mass of structures that would be eligible for frequently used rehabilitation incentives.

The footprint of Abingdon Main Street includes Main Street between Academy Drive on the West and Deadmore St. on the East; Plumb Alley; Trooper’s Alley; Depot Square; Remsburg Drive; parts of Park Place and Cummings Street; and William King Museum of Art.
